WooCommerce accessibility: a practical EAA checklist

WooCommerce core is reasonably accessible; most problems come from themes, page builders and plugins. Fix these first.

1. Alt text in the Media Library

Media → Library → each product image → Alternative Text. Gallery images reuse this field.

2. Theme colours

Appearance → Customize → Colors. Buttons, prices, sale flashes and notices often fail the 4.5:1 contrast ratio.

3. Page builders

Elementor, Divi and similar builders make it easy to create headings out of order and icon-only buttons. Use real heading levels (H1 → H2 → H3) and add labels to icon widgets.

4. Variation dropdowns and swatches

Swatch plugins often replace accessible <select> menus with clickable divs. Check they work with a keyboard, or keep the standard dropdown.

5. Forms

Contact Form 7, newsletter and checkout field plugins: make sure each field has a visible label and that errors are announced in text.

6. Accessibility statement

Publish a statement page and link it from your footer; our full report generates one from your scan.
